Mount Mounts Pike Role For 'Star Trek: Discovery'

Hopefully it's a speaking role…

Source: Meet Discovery's Captain Pike

If you haven't watched the end of the first season of Star Trek: Discovery, you would have missed a reference to the U.S.S. Enterprise and its captain (from the Discovery time period) Christopher Pike.

Prior to the casting of William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, the original Star Trek television series had a pilot titled The Cage. The Cage featured a different captain, Christopher Pike played by Jeffrey Hunter (Bruce Greenwood played the Kelvin Timeline Pike in the recent Star Trek movies).

Note that Captain Robert April (voiced by James Doohan in Star Trek: The Animated Series) captained the Enterprise before Pike despite what the video stated. At any rate, it looks like we'll be seeing more of Captain Pike, as Anson Mount, who played  Black Bolt in Inhumans, has been cast as Pike for Star Trek: Discovery's season two.

While we're sure that we'll be seeing the Jeffrey Hunter analog version of Pike in Discovery, if the show lasts long enough, maybe Mount will once again get to play a mute character, as Pike eventually was injured rescuing trainees and cadets leaving him paralyzed and unable to speak as we saw in the two-part Original series The Menagerie episodes repurposing The Cage footage.

No airdate has been announced yet for Star Trek: Discovery season two. If we are getting Pike, will we also be seeing his pointy-eared, slightly emotional science officer?
