Creed Screenwriter Aaron Covington Lowering Himself To Comics

When you're at the top, the only way to go is down.

Aaron Covington's career must be on a downturn as the Creed co-screenwriter is writing a two-issue comic arc for Black Panther in the digitial series Long Live the King. Covington co-wrote Creed with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. Joining the writer on the arc is artist Mario DelPennio

The pair take over from Nnedi Okorafor and Andre Lima Araujo who will return for the final two issues of the series. The issues from Covington and DelPennio launch a new story in which Black Panther has to deal with a monster tearing through the country while also struggling to help the nation rebound from political strife.

This is an interesting career choice for Covington as most writers spend years slaving away in the comics medium only to work their way up to Hollywood. Matt FractionKelly Sue DeConnick, and J. Michael Straczynski come to mind. It's rare that screenwriters make the downward shift.

The third issue of Black Panther: Long Live the King is set to release January 10.  Black Panther hits the big screen Feb. 16.
