As opposed to de-aging the adult actor.

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg confirmed that the title role will be played by two different actors, as opposed to Benjamin Buttoning the main adult actor.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to do that. That seems like way too much of a hassle. So I think it's just kind of best to have a kid and an adult.

Sandberg commended the use of CGI to de-age an actor, but didn't think it would work for Shazam!.

Yeah and they've done quite well, I mean Kurt Russell was in the latest Guardians was really well made I thought, but I think there's a limit to it as well. You probably can't do someone to be a kid. Why create that hassle for yourself?

Production on the "light-hearted" Shazam! film is set to start production in 2018 for a release in 2019.
