Archie Comics announced two titles today which are coming out later this year: Betty & Veronica Vixens (B&V Vixens) and The Mighty Crusaders. Vixens will feature a reimagined Archieverse with Betty and Veronica as "badass biker chicks in charge of the meanest gang in town". The Mighty Crusaders is not a rebranding of Archie's Super Teens, rather it is bringing back an old super hero team who you might recognize.

The idea for B&V Vixens originated with editor Jamie Rotante, who will also write the series. Rotante expresses her enthusiasm for the idea:

"I couldn’t be more honored and excited for the opportunity to not only let pop culture’s two most recognizable BFFs take center stage, but to give them the opportunity to kick a whole lot of ass along the way" … "Betty and Veronica aren’t just two young ladies who happen to like the same boy — they’re two hard-working, intelligent and strong women who maintain a friendship despite their differences; consistently defying all expectations to overcome the odds stacked against them. That’s something I really wanted to explore with this series — and not just Betty and Veronica, many of the female Archie Comics characters will get a chance to tell their own unique stories in a way that’s fun and action-packed."

Eva Cabrera will be doing the art for the series which sets out in November.

Archie will also be re-entering the superhero genre. The company will revive The Mighty Crusaders, a title first on the scene back in 1965 then written by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel. The team actually first appeared in Fly-Man before getting their own title. The Mighty Crusaders was comprised as The Shield, The Fly (aka. Fly-Man), The Black Hood, and The Comet. If this sounds a little familiar Archie did revive them more recently in 1983 under the Red Circle Line, and DC also took a short at them, licensing them for some comics in 1992. From the looks of it, it looks like they'll be expanding the roster quite a bit.

Archie CEO Jon Goldwater's goal with The Mighty Crusaders is to "tell fun, widescreen superheroics" and also comics "… accessible, not mired in a million crossovers and part of a bigger, unfolding story". Ian Flynn will be writing the series, with art by Kelsey Shannon. The series will start in December.
