In remembrance of her execution on May 30, 1431 in France, Tapestry Comics has brought the illustrated history of Joan of Arc to Kickstarter. Told through her testimony in front of a hostile tribunal, A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS recounts Joan's heroic journey from French peasant girl to one of history's greatest heroines.

One of the world's most accomplished and bravest heroines, Joan of Arc changed history, inspired Hollywood and has intrigued students and historians for centuries. Born in obscurity to a peasant family, she found herself driven by visions to led the French army to victory. Burned at the stake for acts against God, she achieved a remarkable achievement in her short life of 19 years. A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS uses Joan's own words to tell her epic story.

Written by Tyler Button, a former special education teacher, A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS is part of Tapestry Comics' mission to make history more accessible by bringing non-fiction narratives to life as graphic novels. Fans of historical and military non-fiction will find a lot to celebrate in this graphic novel which recounts Joan's divine mission to lead France to victory in its long-running war with England.

"My experiences as an educator and as a father informs so much of A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS," said Button. "I've always been drawn to history — and I think Joan's story is as relevant today as it was then. Whether as a martyr, saint, or military leader, Joan's story is an aspirational one. She's a real heroine who actions changed history. That's something to celebrate."

Joining Button on A Flower in a Field of Lions is illustrator Ryan Cody whose previous works includes DARK HORSE COMICS PRESENTS, DOC UNKNOWN, and ATOMIC ROBO. Cody, who cites Mike Mignola and Mike Oeming as influences, recognized the importance of bringing Joan of Arc's story to life.

"I love the energy and passion Tyler has brought to this project. Joan of Arc has this sort of mythological quality in popular culture. How often do you have the opportunity to illustrate the adventures of the patron saint of France? Bringing her story to life was something I felt that I couldn't pass up. It's been an incredible experience."

A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS is the first Kickstarter for Tapestry Comics, the publishing studio founded by Button, who believes the crowd-funding platform offers unique opportunites for independent creators.

"We think A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS has broad appeal for comic fans, but also for schools, libraries, and educators. Kickstarter is ideal for reaching out to new fans, but it's also awesome forreaching new readers. We're looking forward to bringing this  series to the platform and bringing Joan's story to life."

A FLOWER IN A FIELD OF LIONS will be available on Kickstarter on May 30th, with the campaign running until July 4. The full color 124 page (aprox.) graphic novel will debut in Spring 2018. To find out more, visit:
